Nintendo Switch 2: The Gaming World's Biggest 'Open Secret' Is Brewing

To be honest, the whole gaming industry has been waiting for this moment. Rumors about Switch 2 have not stopped since last year. But recently, these rumors have genuinely taken us Nintendophiles by surprise. As a loyal gamer who has followed Nintendo for over two decades, today I'll run through what these rumors are really worth.

Do you remember those developer leaks from September last year? Back then, at a certain game conference, I witnessed developers whispering about the "new console's performance" in the backstage area. At that time, it seemed like mere hearsay; now it looks...well, let’s see.

- Bloomberg says March release (Jeff Grubb didn’t spill any beans this time)

- Developer kits are circulating among major studios

- Technical specifications have been basically finalized

- Price range is roughly $400

But to be honest, Nintendo's new console isn't all about hardware; the real key is the games and innovative gameplay.

Here’s a compilation of reliable information I’ve gathered (no need to ask me for my sources—just "insider knowledge" 😏):

- 8-inch OLED screen, supporting 4K output

- NVIDIA custom chip with performance close to PS4

- Better battery life compared to current OLED version

- Handheld controller improvement in the joystick design (I can’t handle any more...)

But what’s most interesting is...

At a game expo in Tokyo recently, I noticed an intriguing detail on KONAMI's booth—next to their *Ghost of Tsushima* display was a covered showcase. Staff said it was "for the future." Coincidence? I don't think so.

In recent months:

- Capcom suddenly hired Switch optimization engineers

- SE paused several mobile game projects

- BANDAI Namco delayed games originally set for Q2 release

These are very clear signals. If you understand them.

This is something I must address. My family still cherishes the original Switch and all its major titles; if the new machine can't play them, I won’t agree with it. According to what I know:

- Physical cartridge games should work 99% of the time

- Digital games need re-downloading in optimized versions

- Cloud saves will be seamlessly migrated

- Old controllers may have partial compatibility

To be frank, Nintendo’s timing is perfect this time around:

- PS5 and Xbox Series X are already losing their novelty factor

- The mobile gaming market growth has slowed down

- Handheld games are making a comeback

- Retro game nostalgia is in vogue

As a long-time player, I have several concerns:

- Potential high launch price

- Migration of old players' game libraries

- Will the new console be too "high-end"?

- Development cycle for first-party games

What excites me most about Switch 2 is:

- The possibility of a new *The Legend of Zelda* title

- Stronger performance in indie games

- Possible VR/AR features

- Better online services (please, please)

If you're currently on the fence about getting your current Switch:

- Play it now if you want to, don’t wait

- Second-hand Switches are a great deal

- Good games never go out of style

- New machines will have issues at launch

To be honest, I’m still looking forward to Nintendo's new console. While there are concerns, let’s think back to how Nintendo has never disappointed us since the days of the Famicom.

I’ll keep updating you on the latest news:
